Larry G. Rankin, Sr.

Larry G. Rankin Sr. age 83 of Defiance, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Mercy Defiance Hospital.   
  
He was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 14, 1941 to the late James and Ethel (Felzer) Rankin. On August 3, 1963  he married Ann Pahl who survives. 
  
Larry was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He worked for ODOT for several years until his retirement, and proudly volunteered for the Ayersville Highland Township and S. Richland Fire Departments for 27 years. He loved being outdoors, especially in the woods. Larry was a huge fan of Michigan and Notre Dame football. In his leisure time enjoyed spending time with his McDonald's coffee group and going to garage sales. He will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends.
  
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ann Rankin of Defiance, and his children, Larry (Sue) Rankin, Jr. of Defiance, Tony (Rosa) Rankin of Las Vegas, NV, Dave (Sally) Rankin of Houston, TX, Mary Rankin of Defiance, and Kim (Chris) Brown of Holgate, OH. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, and his sister, Judy Meyer of Oakwood. 
  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather Paul Warnke, brother Jim Rankin, and sister Paula Cooper.
  
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Rosary Service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Fr. Jason D'Souza officiating. Larry will be laid to rest at Riverview Memory Gardens.
