Kathryn "Sharon" (Pease) Powell

Kathryn "Sharon" Powell, age 79 of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

She was born in Casa Grande, Arizona on January 1, 1946 to the late William and Lela (Harris) Pease. On April 30, 1966 she married Henry Powell, who preceded her in death on September 26, 2006.

Kathryn earned her Bachelor's degree in Education and taught Kindergarten and Elementary classes in California until her retirement in 1997. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, and enjoyed volunteering at the food pantry at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was a long-term foster parent and was also a teacher's aide at Defiance Elementary School. Kathryn never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Kathryn is survived by her loving children, Steven (Leigh) Powell and Wendy (Thomas Taylor) Powell, six grandchildren; Andrew, Cathryn, Abby, Flynn, David and Leila, three great-grandchildren, and her brothers, Keith, Randy, and Asa Pease.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and three sisters.

Friends may visit the family on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 pm at the church with Pastor Ron Monteith officiating. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
