Kathleen "Katie" R. (Lesh) Ensign

Kathleen R. "Katie" Ensign, age 90 of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at The Laurels of Defiance.   
  
She was born on February 21, 1935 to the late Clarence and Bertha (Rost) Lesh in Defiance, Ohio. On March 3, 1952 she married Larry Ensign who preceded her in death in October, 1992  
  
Katie was a member of Defiance Eagles #372 Auxiliary and was a life member of AmVets #1991. She worked as a waitress at Barnes Restaurant until her retirement. Katie was a an avid sports fan and loved Defiance and Ayersville high school athletics, The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. She enjoyed bowling and playing Euchre. Katie was a very loving and kind person who enjoyed family and holiday gatherings. She will be greatly missed by her family and many good friends.
  
Katie is survived by her loving children, Cheryl Newman, Mike (Barb) Ensign, Cathy Ensign, Cindy (Sam) Williamson and Carolyn (Denny) Rose, all of Defiance, her grandchildren, Carrie McMichael, Kim Spencer, Erica McGuire, Brandon Ensign, Jerad Ensign, Amber Ensign, Jeremy Sierra, Jessica Rivera, Jason Sierra, Nicole Morris, Austin Keel, Alex Keel, DeNae Galanakis, and Alyssa Detray, 41 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
  
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Ensign, great-grandson, Colton Sierra, her sisters Marge Oelfke and Dorothy Rothenberger, and her companion John Archambeault. 
  
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 2-8 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 13th at the funeral home, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Katie will be laid to rest in Riverview Memory Gardens.
