Karen J. Mangas

Karen J. Mangas, age 79 of Defiance, left us suddenly on Tuesday evening, February 7, 2023 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. She was surrounded by her family.    
  
She was born on December 28, 1943 to the late Willard and Ethel (Sanford) Stuckey in Defiance, Ohio. On May 23, 1964 she married Jerome "Jerry" Mangas, who survives. 
  
Karen was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance, and was active in the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of AmVets Auxiliary #1991, Moose Lodge #2094 and VFW Auxiliary #3360. Karen worked as a Manager at Ft. Defiance Federal Credit Union and was the Treasurer at AmVets for over 20 years. She enjoyed her time spent volunteering in the office at St. Mary Catholic Church. In her leisure time she enjoyed cooking, traveling, Lake Erie fishing, and spending time with her family, especially with her grandkids. Karen was a loving wife, doting mother and grandmother, and a beautiful soul. She was known by all for her kindness and welcoming smile. Karen will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
  
Karen is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jerry Mangas of Defiance, her daughter, Angi (Brian) Marks of Cincinnati, OH, and her sons, Bradley Mangas of Defiance, Cory (Amanda) Mangas of Cincinnati, and DJ (Kristin) Mangas of Columbus. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren; Greyson Marks, Zach Marks, Brady Mangas, Hannah Mangas, Levi Mangas, Jude Mangas, and Edie Mangas, her sister, Judy Butler of Defiance, and her brothers, Dave (Teressa) Stuckey of Columbus and Jack (Yaoko) Stuckey of Ridgefield, NJ. 
  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother in infancy, Larry Stuckey, and her sister, Phyllis Hahn. 
  
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with an AmVets Auxiliary Memorial Service at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Randy Giesige, Fr. John Stites and Fr. Dave Cirata officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
  
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Food Pantry or Ft. Defiance Humane Society.
