Joseph Dallas Messerman, age 93 of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Kingsbury Place in Defiance, Ohio.
He was born on October 10, 1929 to the late Joseph and Louise (Murschel) Messerman in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. Joe proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Penn State. On June 9, 1956 he married Sue Caren (Widmer) Messerman, who survives.
Joe was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was the Human Resources Director for Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon, and Zellers Corp. in Defiance. He then owned and operated Messerman Machine Shop for 25 years until his retirement. He was very involved in several civic organizations in the community. He was an avid history reader and he enjoyed golfing, bridge club, and spending his winter seasons in Arizona. He loved to go fishing with his grandkids. Joe was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Sue Caren Messerman of Defiance, his daughters, Kathy Messerman and Lorraine (Peter) Ervin, all of Pennsylvania, and his son, Andrew (Ida) Messerman of Maine. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and his sister, Donna (Philip) Frey of Montana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert and William Earl Messerman, and his sisters, Dellie, Minnie, and Beatrice.
Joe's family will receive friends on Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 2:00-5:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
