John P. "Jack" DeLano, age 82 of Ayersville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born in West Springfield, Massachusetts on June 15, 1942 to Wilbert Kilbourne DeLano and Beatrice (Parmelee) DeLano. Jack was an older brother to his very much loved sister, Marjorie "Mimi". Jack met Carol Ludwig on the Defiance College campus and they were married on October 12, 1963.
Jack was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance, and also a long time member of the Ayersville Athletic Boosters and Defiance College Purple and Gold Boosters. He was a former member of Ayersville Local School Board and Ayersville Water and Sewer Board and was an honorary member of the Kissner's Breakfast Club! He also volunteered as a baseball coach on the Yankees Team for many years from T-ball through Middle School at Ayersville. Jack was an avid fan of University of Michigan football and also loved watching many football, baseball, volleyball, track and wrestling activities of his children and grandchildren.
Jack enjoyed being a Prudential Insurance agent in Defiance for many years and moved on to Lima, Ohio as District Manager. After retiring from Prudential in 2007 he was employed as a financial planner by Sky Bank Investments for several years. He loved meeting people and never knew a stranger. Jack always had a joke to tell and a smile to share. He will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Carol, his children, Sheryl Goonan and David (Kari) DeLano, all of Ayersville, four grandchildren, Patrick "Joe" Goonan, John "Jack" Goonan, Luke DeLano and Abram "Abe" DeLano, his sister, Mimi (Luke) McCoy of Suffolk, Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Patrick Joseph Goonan, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A Memorial service will immediately follow at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
