John R. Nagel

John R. "Bob" Nagel, age 86 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at The Laurels of Defiance.   
  
He was born on July 10, 1935 to Edward and Mae (Rowe) Nagel in Defiance, Ohio. Bob was a 1953 graduate of Jewell High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953-1955. On April 30, 1966 he married Lois (Singer) Nagel, who preceded him in death in 2009.

Bob was a life-long member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, and also a member of the Knights of Columbus #1039, VFW #3360 and AmVets #1991 in Defiance. Bob farmed all of his life and worked for 38 years at General Motors until his retirement. He was an avid collector of Hot Wheels, Matchbox Cars, and Farm toys. Bob enjoyed attending high school sports, especially at Tinora. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  
  
Bob is survived by his children, Judy Murray of Toledo, OH, Larry (Michelle) Nagel of Hoagland, IN, and Karen (Christopher) Romie of Dayton, OH, and his grandchildren, Marissa and Megan Murray, Leyna and Alexander Nagel, Ryan Romie, and a granddaughter on the way. Also surviving are his siblings, Jean Zimmerman and Jan Brown, both of Defiance, and his companion, Sharon Meyer of Defiance.
  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his brothers Paul and Raymond Nagel, and son-in-law, Steve Murray.
  
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street). A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 pm. Due to CDC guidelines, if you are not fully vaccinated a mask is required to enter the funeral home, and our lounge area will remain closed. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with Father John Stites officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery.
