John H. Layman, age 90 of Peoria, Arizona, formerly of Defiance, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 in Surprise, Arizona.
He was born on October 17, 1930 to Virgil and Wava (Driver) Layman in Toledo, Ohio. In 1949 he married Gwendolyn (Klima) Layman who preceded him in death on July 25, 2015.
John was a member of Defiance Church of the Brethren and Auglaize Country Club. He was a truck driver for Diehl's.
John is survived by his son, Larry (Sallie) Layman of Phoenix, AZ, his daughters, Rebecca (Russell) Pfeifle of Woodland, CA, Francie ( Marty) Bawden of Stockton, UT, and Beverlie (Randy) McCoy of Defiance, Ohio. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and his brother, Floyd Layman of Ney, OH.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, John Layman Jr. and Charles Layman, his daughter, Raye Ann Sanders, and his brothers, David, Paul, and Ralph Layman.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, Ohio. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Gene Yenser officiating. Due to CDC guidelines, if you are not fully vaccinated, a mask is required to enter the funeral home, and our lounge area will remain closed. Burial will take place at St. John Cemetery in Tiffin Township.
