John K. Johnston

John K. Johnston, age 69 of Jewell, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Mercy Defiance Hospital.   
  
He was born on August 4, 1949 to the late Charles and Marilyn (Young) Johnston in Reading, Pennsylvania. On January 4, 1969  he married Jacqueline (Disheaux) Johnston, who resides in Jewell, Ohio. 

John worked at General Motors in Defiance for 35 years until his retirement in 2008. He had a true passion for working around the house, and he was an avid  fan of the Cleveland Browns, Indians, Cavs, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. In his leisure time he enjoyed reading and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Spending time with his family was always a priority, and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
  
John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jacqueline Johnston of Jewell,  two sons, Scott (Traci) Johnston of Lima, and Shawn (Annette) Johnston of Defiance, four grandchildren; Kelsey Zipfel, Alyssa Johnston, Christian M. Johnston, and Christian J. Driftmyer, great-grandson Silas S. Shafer, his sister, Jennifer Dockery of Defiance, and brother, James Johnston of Defiance. 
  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Deitrick and Joan Marie Johnston.
  
Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Friday, April 5th at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Max Begley officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
