John Arthur Hoover, 69, of Defiance, passed away on March 11, 2026.
He was born on July 10, 1956 to Harold and Mary (Moore) Hoover in Wooster, OH. John worked as a Welder for Defiance Metal Products for many years until his retirement. In his retirement, he enjoyed driving for K&P Transportation and talking to people. John was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a chef in the kitchen.
John is survived by his sons, Dustin (Jessica) Mann of Cincinnati, OH, Duane (Sherri) Hoover of Defiance, and Derek (Kerstan) Hoover of Stoutsville, OH; sisters, Carol (Gary) March of Napoleon, OH, Lisa Hoover of Circleville, OH, and Amy (Tyrone) Dietzel of South Bloomingville, OH; uncle, Jonas Hoover; nieces, Cindy (John) Larson, Erin (Matt) Kelly, and Mary (Richard) Coakley; grandchildren and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Ethel Hoover of Circleville, OH; his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Gladys Slevin; his uncle, Don Hoover; and his aunts, Dorothy Thompson, Martha Ensign, and Helen Swackhammer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
