John Fetter, age 84 formerly of Defiance, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones Friday evening, July 14, 2023 at Advanced Specialty Hospitals of Toledo.
He was born November 13, 1938 to the late Robert and Doris (Walker) Fetter in Napoleon, Ohio. On July 30, 1965 he married Martha “Bobbie” Shook (deceased).
John attended Defiance College, where he played golf, and was a member of the first DC men’s golf team to qualify for the NAIA National Championships. He loved to fish, he loved to dance, and he enjoyed watching Ohio State football.
He spent most of his career as an electrician with W.E. Olson Electric, Inc. retiring in the early 2000s. In addition, he was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #8.
He served as a volunteer firefighter (Minutemen) with the Defiance Fire Department; he was a lifetime member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) 147, where he served more than one term as Exalted Ruler; and he was a member of the Fremont (Ind.) Moose Lodge 2387.
John is survived by his children, Michelle (Fetter) Lawrence of Tucson, Ariz., and Jon David Fetter of Fort Myers, Fla., daughter-in-law Jennifer Healy-Fetter; grandchildren Taylor, Sidney, and Dakota Lawrence of Tucson, Ariz., and Avery, and Harper Fetter of Fort Myers, Fla.; and friend and companion Penny Getz of Haskins, Ohio.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, Martha, and brother, Joe Fetter.
John’s wishes were to not have a visitation or a funeral service, but a graveside burial will take place on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Riverside Cemetery.
