Joann K. Schroeder

Joann K. (Rettig) Schroeder, 86, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away peacefully at CHP Hospice Center of Defiance on Sunday morning, January 29, 2023.
She was born on April 12, 1936, to the late William and Maggie (Huber) Rettig in Holgate, Ohio. She grew up on the family farm, five miles outside of Holgate on Route 108.  After completing high school at Holgate, she moved to Toledo, Ohio, and completed her RN Nursing degree at Toledo Hospital School of Nursing. On November 15, 1958, she married Harold A. Schroeder at St. John’s U.C.C. Church, Holgate.  After her marriage, Joann bore two sons, Randal H (Mary) and Gary L. (Jose) who survive.  She then began her full-time employment as Head of Surgical Nursing at Henry County Hospital. 
Harold and Joann spent most of their married days living in the home which they both helped build.  She and her husband were founding members of Peace Reformed Church in Napoleon where Joann served as the primary Sunday School teacher, Adult and Children’s choir director, and an officer in the women’s fellowship.  Joann loved football and basketball and The Ohio State Buckeyes as well as being at the lake in the summer fishing and enjoying family and friends. 
On May 27, 2006, Joann married her second husband, Melvin Weber at Peace Reformed Church in Napoleon, Ohio.  They enjoyed nine years of marriage going to sporting events, cheering on the Buckeyes, and spending time at the lake. 
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Maggie, husbands Harold Schroeder and Melvin Weber, and brothers Wallace and Lynn. 
Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Peace Reformed Church, 638 Huddle Road, Napoleon, Ohio with Rev. Steve Altman officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Napoleon.  
Memorials are suggested to Peace Reformed Church, Kingsbury Place, CHP Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.
