Joann Adkins

Joann Adkins, 89, of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
  
She was born on August 7, 1935 to the late James and Emily (Willis) Singleton in Cleveland, Virginia. On June 15, 1957 she married Donald Adkins who preceded her in death on October 7, 2023. 
  
Joann was a nurse at Lebanon Hospital in Virginia, and at Defiance Hospital for several years until her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, camping, cooking and canning. She loved being outdoors and gardening. Joann treasured her time spent with her family. 
  
Joann is survived by her daughters, Donna (Faron) Hubert of Hicksville and Karen (Jeff) Justinger of Antwerp, six grandchildren; Lisa (Brad) Holsopple of West Unity, Emily VanHorn of Bryan, Darcie Bell of North Canton, Amber Justinger-Triggs of Blissville, MI, Daniel Justinger of Hicksville, and Heather Justinger of Cecil, eight great-grandchildren; Alyssa, Brendon, Caitlyn, Kendyl, Aubrey, Casey, Kailah and Sydni, and many nieces and nephews.
  
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters.
  
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Joann will be laid to rest in Riverview Memory Gardens.
