Joan Katherine Figley

Joan Katherine Figley, age 94 of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2024 at The Laurels of Defiance.   
  
She was born on October 21, 1930 to the late Ernest and Gladys (Brown) Grawbarger in Defiance, Ohio. Joan was a 1948 graduate of Defiance High School. She was married to D.G. "Toad" Melia for several years. In 1970 she married Richard L. Figley who preceded her in death on January 21, 1986. 
  
Joan was a faithful member of Defiance Church of the Nazarene. She worked at Zeller Corp in Defiance, and then at Defiance Hospital in the Dietary Department. In her leisure time she enjoyed traveling, reading, music, dancing, and jigsaw puzzles. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joan will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
  
Joan is survived by her children, David (Danielle) Figley and Kris (Pat) Tipton, all of Defiance, and Mike Melia of Ft. Wayne, IN, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 
  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Figley, and son, Steve Melia.
  
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Donald Leonard officiating. Joan will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
