JoAnn Carol Arens, 87, of Defiance, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022 at CHP Hospice Inpatient Center in Defiance, Ohio.
She was born on June 28, 1935 to the late Floyd and Emma (Drexler) Scheele in Jewell, Ohio. She was a 1953 graduate of Jewell High School. JoAnn worked as a secretary for 43 years at Erwin L. Clemens Law Office until her retirement in 1996. On May 12, 1956 she married James Arens who survives in Defiance.
JoAnn was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Florida, Ohio, LWML (Lutheran Women Missions League), North Richland Homemakers Club, and she volunteered as a voting precinct worker.
JoAnn is survived by her husband James Arens, her children; Michael (Karen) Arens of Defiance, David (Sharon) Arens of Sherwood, Deborah (Vestel "Cork") Schlegel Jr. of Paulding, her grandsons, Nathan (Summer) Schlegel and Adam (Lori) Schlegel, all of Paulding, and great-grandchildren, Slade and Storie Schlegel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Richard Scheele.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton St.) in Defiance. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Florida, Ohio, with Rev. Jacob Stuenkel officiating. Burial will follow the service at Florida Cemetery.
