Jarod Kammeyer Obituary

Jarod F. Kammeyer, age 48 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Mercy St. Rita's Hospital in Lima, Ohio, after a courageous and extensive 820 day battle from Covid 19 complications and was tabbed as "The Miracle Man."

He was born on January 24, 1975 to James and Judy (Feeney) Kammeyer in Defiance, Ohio. Jarod was a 1993 graduate of Tinora High School. On September 23, 2000 he married Cristina Nicely, who survives.

Jarod was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance. In his early career he worked as an Assistant Director at Spartan Retail in Napoleon, Ohio, and in 2004 he was the Store Manager at Dollar Tree in Defiance. In 2015 he was promoted to the District Manager of Dollar Tree Stores, Inc, overseeing stores in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. On September 8, 1993 he was appointed to Firefighter and Assistant Chief for Noble Township Fire Department for 29 years. He was also certified with Hazardous Materials Operations and was a member of Defiance County Hazardous Materials Response Team.

His true calling in life was Fire Fighting and Prevention. Jarod was truly dedicated to helping and serving his community. He enjoyed being with his family, working outdoors and doing construction projects around the house. His family and friends were very important to him. Jarod will be sadly missed by his family and many friends and colleagues. His hope was that his battle would be the strength for others.

Jarod is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Cristina, his mother-in-law, Donna (Stelter) Nicely, his parents, James and Judy Kammeyer, his sister, Jolene (Corey) Massel, one niece and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Otto Nicely, who recently passed away two weeks prior on February 1, 2023, and his grandparents; Fred and Amelia (Huner) Kammeyer and Paul and Erma (Fitzwater) Feeney.

His wife Cristina would like to extend special gratitude and thank you to all of Jarod's medical providers, family and friends during his courageous battle of Covid 19.
