Janis L. Kinder

Janis L. Kinder, 75, of Defiance, peacefully passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.   
  
She was born on January 28, 1948 to the late William and Moneita (Yetter) Conkright in Defiance, Ohio. On September 11, 1965 she married Thomas E. Kinder Sr. who survives. 
  
Janis was a faithful member of First Church of God. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events and family graduation and wedding celebrations. No distance was ever too far to visit her son every place he was stationed. Janis had a tremendous sense of humor and was so well-loved by her friends in the Defiance community, where she graduated from Defiance High School, was a life-long resident, and retired from Chief Supermarket in Defiance. 
  
Janis will be sadly missed by her loving husband of  57 years, Thomas Kinder, Sr. of Defiance, her sons, Thomas (Elizabeth) Kinder, Jr. of Lebanon, TN, and Scott (Miranda) Kinder of Fort  Wayne, IN, her brother, Jack Conkright of Florida, four grandchildren; Ryan, Brianne, Kaitlyn and Joshua, and four great-grandchildren; Tristen, Haley, Zane and Eden. 
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Moneita Conkright.
  
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home, with Pastor Tyson Nofzinger officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens.
