James "Jim" S. Potter

James S. "Jim" Potter, age 83 of Defiance, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Brookview Healthcare Center in Defiance, Ohio.   
  
Jim was born in Elkhorn City, Kentucky on August 4, 1941 to Ollie and Elnora (O'Quinn) Potter. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. On August 26, 1967 he married Mary Jane Stevens, who preceded him in death on May 26, 2015. 
  
Jim was a faithful member of Oakwood Church of Christ. He worked at Campbell Soup Company for 37 years until his retirement in 2009. Jim was a devoted Christian and loved to read and study The Bible. He loved his word searches, watching television and "Murder She Wrote", and listening to old Gospel and Blue Grass music, especially Dolly Parton. He enjoyed being outdoors tending to his flower garden, and watching the birds. He treasured his time spent with his daughters.
  
Jim is survived by his loving daughters, Stephanie Potter and Jessica Potter, both of Defiance, his sister Cassie Goff of Elko, Nevada, brother-in-law Ronnie Stevens of Harold, Kentucky, and his furry grand-pups, Daisy Mae, Sadie Sue and Bella Jane. 
  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane Potter, sisters Janet Faye Dewese and Wanda Stevens, and brother Jerry Potter.
  
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Oakwood Church of Christ in Oakwood, Ohio. A funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, December 27th at the church, with Rev. Paul Lambert officiating. Jim will be laid to rest at Sherman Cemetery.
