James Banks, 70, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.
He was born on September 28, 1947 to Jasper and Helen (Calahan) Banks in Cincinnati, Ohio. On August 6, 1966 he married Julia (Amanns) Banks, who resides in Defiance. James proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at General Motors for over 30 years until his retirement. James was a member of UAW #211. He enjoyed working in his yard, and painting. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
James will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Julia Banks of Defiance, son, Joel (Michele) Banks of Colorado, daughters, Jill (Craig) Walters of Stockbridge, Georgia, and Joy Sarsfield of Defiance, nine grandchildren, and brother, Bob Banks of High Falls, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Adam Banks, and two sisters in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Rev. David Brobston officiating.
