Jack William Speiser

J. William “Jack” Speiser, age 78, of Sherwood passed away on Saturday, November 23 at Kingsbury Trustwell Living with his family at his side.
Jack was born on March 23, 1946 in Defiance, OH to Paul and Mildred (Fahy) Speiser. Jack proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 and was stationed in Korea. On April 29, 1972 he married Michele "Mick" Jacob at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church.
Jack was a member of the Sherwood VFW Post #5665, Defiance County Farm Bureau, and the Ohio Cattlemen Association. He was a proud supporter of 4-H. He enjoyed camping at the Defiance County Fair so much that it became the family’s only annual vacation.
In his retirement years, Jack enjoyed endless hours of reading cattle magazines and spending time in the cabin in the woods with his grandkids. In his earlier years, he enjoyed making his three sons walk their 4-H animal projects for hours upon hours, visiting with friends and family, and going on his infamous multi-hour Sunday drives. Everyone always knew what Jack thought of something because he was very direct with his explanations.
Jack worked at Dinner Bell Foods for 21 years and then several grain elevators during his life and eventually retired from Edon Farmer’s Co-op in 2011. Wherever Jack worked, he made an impact forming strong, life-long friendships.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mick; his three sons, Sam (Jami), Ed (Jill), Luke (Lindsay). He also leaves behind his four adorable grandchildren, Paul, Owen, Lauren and Dean Speiser. Jack also leaves behind a brother Joseph and two sisters, Jeannine Luderman and Judy Bayliss. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brothers, John, James, and Jerry. 
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance, with a Vigil Service at 3:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 27th at St. Isidore Catholic Church, with Fr. John Stites and Fr. Melwin D'Souza officiating. Jack will be laid to rest at St. Isidore Catholic Cemetery, with graveside Military Honors conducted by Sherwood VFW #5665.
