Iris Elena Greear

Iris E. Greear, age 88 of Defiance, passed away on her birthday, August 30, 2023, at Mercy Defiance Hospital.   
  
She was born on August 30, 1935, to the late Leonard and Gertrude (Patton) Stallard in Coeburn, Virginia. On March 3, 1956, she married James T. Greear, who preceded her in death on January 10, 2020. 
  
Iris was a faithful and active member of Fullmer Road Baptist Church. She loved life, was always very joyful and always had a smile on her face. Iris was well loved by everyone, and she never met a stranger. She enjoyed reading books, gardening, puzzles, flowers and baking. Iris will be greatly missed by her family and many good friends.
  
Iris is survived by her children, Aaron (Sandi) Greear of Corbin, KY, James P. (Kimberley) Greear of Defiance, and Melba D. "Diane" (Mark) Hale of Amelia, OH, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. 
  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Greear, her brothers; Furl, Farrell, Hardrick, Lowell and Herbert, and her sisters; Elizabeth, Vivian, Lorena, Stella, Janice and Agnes.
  
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 from 12:00 noon till 2:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 South Clinton St.) in Defiance. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Ayersville Cemetery.
