Obituary

Herbert E. "Herb" Delventhal, age 93 of Defiance, passed away on  Wednesday morning, January 4, 2023 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.   
  
He was born on March 13, 1929 to the late Ernest and Sophia (Moeck) Delventhal in Waterville, Ohio.  He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry during the Korean War. On February 11, 1995 he married Helen (Hedrick) Delventhal, who survives. 
  
Herb was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Defiance, and Moose Lodge #2094. He started the Defiance Kayak Club, and was also a member of the Ohio Polka Boosters. He worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for several years until his retirement. Herb will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends.
  
Herb is survived by his loving wife, Helen Delventhal of Defiance, his daughter, Cindy (Dennis) Long of Galion, OH, his son, Bruce Delventhal of Michigan, two sisters, Ernestine Axleson and Alice Wiemken, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 
  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, and sister Anna Delventhal.
  
A private Graveside Service will be held at a later date. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
  
Memorials are suggested to Lutheran Home in Napoleon, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
