Helen Janette (Arend) Sauber

Helen Janette Sauber, age 88 of Defiance, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Monday July 7, 2025 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.   
  
She was born on November 11, 1936 to Herman and Elsie (Gordon) Arend in Paulding, Ohio. Helen was a 1954 graduate of Paulding High School. On July 9, 1955 she married Robert Sauber who preceded her in death on May 20, 2022. She was a faithful member of St. John Catholic Church. Helen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to raising her family.   
  
Helen is survived by her loving children, Susan (Gary) Richey, Robert Sauber, Ed (Julie) Sauber, Raymond (Stacy) Sauber, all of Defiance, and Annette (Dave) Tebbe of Yoder, IN. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and her brother Ivan (Pat) Arend of Paulding, Ohio.  
  
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Alma Mae (Bob) Thornell and Donna (Leonard) Proxmire, her brothers, Herman (Eloise) Arend, Jr. and Russell (Mary) Arend, and daughter-in-law, Sheila Sauber.
  
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Rosary Service at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 12th at St. John Catholic Church, with Fr. Kevin McGraw officiating. Helen will be laid to rest in Evansport Cemetery.
