Helen L. Miller, 89, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Brookview Healthcare Center with her husband by her side.
Helen was born in Defiance to the late Eugne F. and Bertha A. (Diemer) Nickel on May 29, 1935. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Defiance and went through grade school at St. John's Lutheran School. Helen graduated from Defiance High School in 1953. She married Murlan R. Miller on October 12, 1958 at St. John Lutheran Church.
She worked at First Federal Bank as a secretary to Bert Davis. She also worked as a secretary to Judge Dan Batt and then to Judge Bakle at the Defiance Court House until she retired in 1988. Helen loved doing needle work and fishing at her and her husband's lake house at Houghton Lake, Michigan. She also loved all types of sports; Detroit Tigers, Michigan Wolverine football and basketball. Helen would also design crafts that her husband made.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Murlan along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, December 2, 2024 at St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the church, with Pastor Kurt Mews officiating. Helen will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
