Helen A. Day

Helen Ann Day, age 63 of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.  
  
She was born in Montpelier, Ohio on July 15, 1961 to Helen (Richards) and Lyle Steel Sr. On August 1, 1988 she married James Day, who preceded her in death in 2014.

Helen proudly earned her Bachelor's degree and worked as an LPN at the Laurels of Defiance for 39 years. She was passionate about nursing and caring for others, and enjoyed working all the time. In her leisure time she enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, and reading. 
  
Helen is survived by her loving daughter, Candy (John) Wright of Oelwein, IA, her grandchildren Jonathan, Carrie and Matthew Wright, and great-grandchildren Spencer and Cameron Hershey. She also leaves behind her brother, Lyle (Barbara) Steel Jr. of Decatur, AK, and sisters, Debbie Steel of Michigan and Cheryl (Bob) Seevers of Hicksville, OH. 
  
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Allen Steel, and sisters Tamara Sweany and Helen M. Sensabaugh.

Per Helen's request there will be no services. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
