Harriet A. (Oskey) Steel

On Saturday, December 28, 2024, Harriet Ann (Oskey) Steel passed away from this earth. She was born on August 10, 1947, to Herman and Dolores (Drerup) Oskey. She graduated from Fairview High School in 1965 and from Mercy School of Nursing in 1968. She married Philip J. Steel on April 2, 1968.

Harriet was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where she volunteered in the office, assisted with money counting and funeral dinners. She was a Eucharistic Minister and President of Altar & Rosary Society. She lived her life in love and service to God. Harriet retired from Defiance County Health Department as a Public Health Nurse and was a member of Defiance Lions Club and DASH. She was an avid reader and loved scrap booking. Harriet treasured her time spent with family and loved being with her grandchildren and friends.

Harriet is survived by her loving husband Phil Steel of Defiance, and their beloved children, Kim (Thomas) Koesters of Sylvania, Scott (Marni) Steel of Grand Rapids, and Shelly (Todd) Shafer of Defiance. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Tyler and Brandon Shafer, Drew, Ryan, Samantha and Allie Koesters, her siblings, Pat Oskey, Mary (Robert) Stephens, Peg Stamm, Tom (Marie) Oskey, Anne (Dave) Gregory, Rex (Karen) Oskey, and Jim Oskey, and sister-in-law Ethel Oskey. 

Passing into Heaven before her were her parents, Herman and Dolores Oskey, and brother Michael Oskey. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 4th at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. David Cirata officiating. Harriet will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
