Guilford Byron Chase

Guilford B. Chase, age 79 of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.  
  
He was born on August 12, 1942 to Guilford and Faye (Leslie) Chase in Dow City, Iowa. Guilford proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. On May 9, 2010 he married Bonnie (Inkster) Chase, who preceded him in death on March 20, 2020. 
  
Guilford was a member of Defiance Christian Church, and was involved in several Bible Study groups. He worked for several years as a truck driver. He enjoyed driving, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Inkster. Guilford was an avid football fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed traveling, and has been to 45 states. One of his most precious trips with his wife (and their dog Sasha) was traveling across the country on their tryke for 49 days. One of his best memories was seeing the last shuttle lift off with his wife Bonnie. He loved going to football games with his grandkids and fishing with his granddaughter. Guilford was a very faithful man and a dependable leader. 
  
Guilford will be sadly missed by his children; Tom (Christine) Hattemer of New Bavaria, OH, Veronica Hattemer of Toledo, OH, Sonya (John) Eckoff of Topeka, KS, Stephanie (Shawn) Ramey of Ney, OH, and Tracey Ann (David) Carroll of Houston, TX. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, his sister, Star Barbarigos (and her good friend Ron) of Aurora, CO, and his brother, Doug (Maria) Inkster of Albuquerque, NM. 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Bonnie, and grandchildren Dustin and Sydnie.
  
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, Ohio. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Michael Hasselbring officiating. The family requests for all guests to please wear a mask.
