Gertrude M. Potts, age 92 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Sunday morning, February 12, 2023 at Glenn Park of Defiance.
She was born on March 16, 1930 to the late Harlan and Thelma (Darling) Madden in Dekalb County, Indiana. In 1950 she married Walter E. Potts, who preceded her in death in January, 1983. Gertrude was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a proud homemaker and was the heart and soul of her family.
Gertrude will be greatly missed by her children; Sandra (Ned) Ewers of Defiance, Connie (Dwight) Chatham of Defiance, Charles (Rhonda) Potts of Liberty Center, OH, Kathy Badillo of Ft. Wayne, IN, James (Deborah) Potts of Defiance, and Richard (Brenda) Potts of Columbia, SC. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren; Heidi, Dexter, Alex, Sarah, Laura, Derek, Kara, Jenna, Rebecca, Amanda, Samantha, Ricky and Taylor, 9 great-grandchildren; Jordyn, Emma, Dorothy, Lexi, Madden, Peyton, Nora, Bryn and Kane, and her sisters, Margaret Richardson of Ft. Wayne, IN and Helen Young of Auburn, IN.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Potts, and seven siblings; Junior Madden, Harold Madden, Mary Potts, Betty Baker, Eugene Madden, Mildred Graham and Donna Osmun.
Honoring Gertrude's wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Hicksville Union Cemetery in Hicksville, Ohio. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
The family would like to the thank the staff members of Glenn Park and ProMedica Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion given to Gertrude.
