George L. Kruse, age 87 of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at The Laurels of Defiance.
He was born on October 9, 1938 to the late Carl and Ruth (Taylor) Kruse in Paulding, Ohio. On November 8, 1958 he married Margene Anderson who survives.
In his youth, George worked on a farm until he was old enough to land a job at Dinner Bell Foods and then later at Cooper Farms.
George never met a stranger and enjoyed telling stories. He loved music and sharing his favorite songs. He was nicknamed "Mr. Euchre" for his love of the game and advice after each hand was played. He set his own schedule and almost missed his first date with Margene. He explained that he didn't want to show up on foot and was late because he was buying a car. Margene recalls that she kept looking for him and was impressed when he drove up in a brand new convertible. His demeanor was Happy Thoughts, and he avoided things to the contrary.
George is survived by his loving wife Margene Kruse of Defiance, and his sons, George G. (Kim) Kruse and Victor J. (Lora) Kruse. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, his brother, Paul Kruse, and sister-in-law, Diane Kruse.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Troy L. Kruse, brothers, Carl (Livona) Kruse, Earl (Carolyn) Kruse, Richard Kruse and Robert Kruse, his sister Clara (Herb) Fessel, and sister-in-law, Sylvia "Cookie" Kruse.
A private visitation for immediate family will be held at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A graveside funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Riverview Memory Gardens, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating.
