George L Gyurnek, age 73 of Defiance, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
He was born on August 28, 1951 to Joseph and Luella (Sigler) Gyurnek in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On October 2, 1992 he married Sandra Matthews who survives.
George was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance, was Chairman of the Trustees, and was a sound technician and supervisor. He worked at Titan Tire In Bryan, Ohio for over 40 years until his retirement. George was a Mr. Fix-It and took great pride in his work. He worked on anything and everything, especially cars. George was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, and loved spending time with his family.
George is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Gyurnek of Defiance, his daughters, Jolene (Mike) Chrisman of Edgerton, OH and Jonica (James) Bynum of Lawton, OK. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Allie Avah-Marie, Chantz and Jayden Chrisman, Elijah and Maggie Blue, and his brother, Joel (Carolyn) Gyurnek of Schaumburg, IL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Gyurnek, twin sister Joanna Gyurnek, and sister Joyce Collins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at St. John Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kurt Mews officiating. George will be laid to rest at Riverview Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
