George W. Fortman

George W. Fortman, 86, of Defiance, formerly of Continental, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, May 4, 2018 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.  
  
He was born on March 23, 1932 to Cornelius and Blanche (Myers) Fortman in Columbus Grove, Ohio.George was a 1955 graduate of Miller City High School. In 1955 he married Carolyn Liska, and they later divorced. George proudly served our country in the U.S. Army as a Corporal from 1953 to 1955. He retired from Johns Manville after 40 years of service. He loved to travel, fish, farm, read, and spend time in his garden.
  
George will be greatly missed by his sons; Randy Fortman, Rick Fortman, and, Rex (Naomi) Fortman, all of Defiance, two grandsons, Shawn Fortman and Kyle Fortman, two granddaughters, Sara Fortman and April (Tim) McCarty, a great-grandsons, Dryden White and Joseph Ausmus, three sisters, Agnes Feljested of Lancaster, CA, Marjorie (Tony) Feliciano of Anaheim, CA, and Joyce Beam of Wapakoneta, Ohio. 
  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edward, Donald, and Cornelius Fortman, sisters, Geraldine Fortman, Helen Camper, Genevieve Wachtman, Hazel Schneider, Mary Schipper, Frances Remington, Delores Donaldson, and Nancy Alt.
  
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 8th at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Deacon Jeff Mayer officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens, with Graveside Military Rites accorded by VFW #3360.
