Gary Lauber Obituary

Gary R. Lauber, 72, of Defiance, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.   
  
He was born on September 1, 1948 to Robert and Berneta (Behnke) Lauber in Wauseon, Ohio. On June 29, 2013 he married Nancy (Crow) Lauber who survives in Defiance, Ohio.
  
Gary was a member of the Ohio National Guard serving in Bowling Green and Napoleon, where he was the company commander, and was honorably discharged from the California National Guard, attaining the rank of Captain. Gary worked for the Campbell's Soup Company Napoleon Plant starting as a line supervisor working in quality control. He moved to Visalia, California, where he worked as the plant manager at a Vlasic olive plant from 1989-1992. He then moved to Michigan where he was the plant manager of Vlasic pickle plants in Bridgeport and Imlay City from 1992-2013. After retirement Gary worked as a food service consultant part time with the N.S.F. company as a food safety inspector. He enjoyed working on Jeeps with his family, and being outside boating, fishing, hunting, skiing, and hiking in the mountains. Gary loved his family and friends and loved to make memories with them. 
  
Gary will be sadly missed by his loving wife Nancy Lauber, of Defiance, his son, Joe (Sheri) Lauber, of Lee's Summit, MO, daughters, Laura (Tim) Brubaker of Bowling Green, OH, and Susan (Don) Buckley of Abilene, KS, stepsons, Brad (Crystal) Miles of Hicksville, OH, and Jeremy (Erin) Tisland of Anthem, AZ, and stepdaughter, Michelle (Aaron) Layos of Ft. Wayne, IN. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, his brother, Dave Lauber of Belleview, OH, and his sister, Connie (Mike) Peters of Grand Blanc, MI. 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his second wife, Julie Lauber.
  
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, September 18, 2020 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Due to the recent pandemic, masks and social distancing are required to enter the funeral home. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Lauber Hill Reformed Mennonite Church Cemetery in Archbold, Ohio, with Rev. Don Fisher officiating, with Military Honors accorded by Archbold American Legion.
