Freda M. Stritt

Freda M. Stritt, age 85 of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital.   
  
She was born on November 15, 1940 to the late Clement and Frances Angermeier. Freda was a graduate of Stryker High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree and then went on to earn her Master's Degree from the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On August 8, 1964 she married James "Jim" Stritt who preceded her in death on October 27, 2007.

Many remember Freda for her years of dedication as a kindergarten teacher at Ayersville Elementary School until her retirement. She was a faithful member of St. John Catholic Church and was involved in several church groups including Celebrating Seniors and the Good Grief Widow and Widower's Group. Church was extremely important to her. She volunteered as an usher, Sacristan, and she made sympathy cards and birthday cards for the parish. She was a proud supporter of University of St. Francis and Defiance Public Library, having recently donated an entire series of "Night Before Christmas" children's books. She loved her trees and flowers, and in her leisure time she enjoyed crafting, scrap booking and reading. Freda was recognized as a National Published Card Maker. Freda kept updated on technology and was not going to let the fast paced world pass her by. The Christmas season was always her favorite time of year.
  
Freda is survived by her brother John Angermeier, and many close friends and neighbors. 
  
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Angermeier.
  
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson-Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Fr. David Cirata officiating. Freda will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
