Floyd A. "Skip" Stites, age 86 of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 18, 2022 with his family by his side at his home in Defiance.
Floyd was born on October 3, 1935 to the late Floyd and Anna (Hiler) Stites in Defiance County, Ohio. On October 22, 1960 he married Donna (Hulbert) Stites, who survives.
Floyd was a faithful member of St. John's Catholic Church in Defiance. He was a Eucharistic Minister and served on Parish Council. He served the City of Defiance as a Police Officer for 34, retiring as Lieutenant in 1993 and worked with the M.A.N. Unit for 17 years. Floyd also worked part-time as a school bus driver for Defiance City Schools. He enjoyed working with computers, sending emails, printing pictures, and camping. Floyd was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather, and was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Donna of Defiance, three sons; Tim Stites of Huntington, IN, Anthony (Sally) Stites of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Terry (Nicole) Stites of McDonald, PA, two daughters; Tammy Brown and Tonya (Eric) Retcher, all of Defiance, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and his brother, Fr. John Stites of Brunersburg, OH.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Tanner, and his brothers, Tom, Keith, and Bobby Stites, and two brothers in childhood.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at St. John's Catholic Church, with Fr. John Stites officiating.
