Ervin L. "Erv" Hastedt, age 89 of Mark Center, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at The Laurels of Defiance.
He was born in Henry County, Ohio on October 31, 1935 to William and Mathilda (Helmke) Hastedt. On January 31, 1959 he married Veronica Kunesh who survives.
Erv proudly earned his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering in 1956 from GM Institute, now known as Kettering University. Early in his career, he worked for General Motors and then began farming, applying his engineering degree as a lifelong farmer. Erv had a true passion for raising crops and livestock, and continued farming until he was 80 years old. He will be sadly missed by his family and everyone that knew him.
Erv is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Veronica Hastedt of Mark Center, OH, and his children, Mary Beth Hastedt (Julian Franke IV) of Fishers, IN, Cheri (Bob) Stevenot of Cincinnati, OH, Vicki (Frank) Daley of Findlay, OH, and Greg (Kathy) Hastedt of Bryan, OH. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister and brother-in-law, Elvera and George Haase.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson-Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Mindy Elliot officiating. Erv will be laid to rest at St. Isidore-Marysdale Cemetery.
