Edgar Bowling

Edgar Bowling, age 76, of Defiance, passed away on November 7, 2025.  

He was born on November 28, 1948, in Hyden, Kentucky to Mitchel and Zuba (Woods) Bowling. He graduated from Leslie County High School in 1968. In July of 1968, he married Martha Sue Bailey, who survives. Together they had two sons and were married for 57 years. In August of 1968, Edgar went to work for General Motors until his retirement in 2003.

He was a faithful member of Bethel Christian Church of Arthur. While at General Motors, Edgar was a committeeman for 14 years and a shop committeeman for 8 years. He thoroughly enjoyed working on his antique cars and woodworking. 

Edgar is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Martha Sue, two sons, Danny (Stacie) Bowling and David (Renee) Bowling, seven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, sister, Lois Jean (Jim) Bradford, brother, Desha Bowling, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchel and Zuba Bowling, one sister, and six brothers.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Chris Baker officiating. One hour of visitation will be held prior to the service. Edgar will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
