Dr. Coit Arthur Black Jr., age 75 of Defiance, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Brookview Healthcare Center in Defiance, Ohio.
He was born in Defiance on January 29, 1951 to the late Coit and Datey (Shindler) Black Sr. Coit graduated from Florida Central Academy and proudly earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic.
Coit was a member of Defiance Elks Lodge #147, and the Defiance Optimist Club. He was the owner of his own Chiropractic office for 32 years in Defiance. In his leisure time he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, hunting and sailing. Coit took great pride in his work and great joy in his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends.
Coit is survived by his children, Elizabeth (Bill) Sabel of Findlay, Coit Anthony (Karin) Black of Defiance, Alison (Kevin) Preslan of Cleveland, Kendall Black and Connor Black, both of Defiance. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, C. Drew, Aubrey and William Black, Isaac and Alexander Sabel, and Colin Preslan, his sister, Sheila Robinson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and former spouse, Carson Slade.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Black, and sisters, Susan Bacon and Tami Garber.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson-Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 3rd at the funeral home, with Rev. David Brobston officiating.
