Donald L. Luhring

Rev. Donald L. Luhring, age 79 of Defiance, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Friday morning, February 11, 2022 at his home in Defiance.    
  
He was born on September 22, 1942 in Midland, Michigan to the late Victor and Ruth (Hockemeyer) Luhring. They lived on the family farm where they raised a few animals. While attending Concordia in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he met a beautiful young lady named Faye Wortman at a friend's graduation party. They were married on August 20, 1966 and have happily shared their lives together for 55 years.

Don felt the call of the Lord at the early age of 16 and became a Pastor. He was confirmed on March 25, 1956 by Pastor G.W. Schoedel. He received his first call to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Monticello, Indiana in 1969, and then to St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance in 1983. He always maintained an active role in parish ministries, church events, and rarely took any time away from the parish office. Don was a strong supporter of the University of Michigan and Detroit Tigers. He will be sadly missed by his family, his church family, and many good friends. 

Don is survived by his loving wife Faye Luhring of Defiance, and his children; Cheryl Luhring of Defiance, Curtis Luhring of Charlotte, NC, and Cindy Luhring and Cory Luhring, both of Columbus, OH. He also leaves behind his twin brother, David (Pauline) Luhring of Frankenmuth, MI, and his sister, Barb (Doug) Hail of Camas, WA. 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents. 
  
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the church, with Rev. Dr. Kevin Wilson officiating. Burial will be private.
