Donald Frederick Jagow, age 78 of Defiance, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Glenn Park of Defiance.
He was born on July 3, 1946 to Howard and Lotus (Donner) Jagow in Flint, Michigan. On December 27, 1970 he married Nikki Maas who preceded him in 2004. On August 9, 2008 he married Mary Freeland who survives. Don served his country in the US Army from 1969 to 1975 and then in the Army National Guard for a total of 25 years of service, obtaining the rank of Major. He was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church and served as President of Congregation.
Don worked for over 31 years for the Ohio Rehabilitation Commission. He was a man of deep faith and devoted to his family, loved people and helping them in any way he could. He enjoyed talking with people and never knew a stranger. Don had a passion for sailing with family and friends. He enjoyed Siberian Huskies, spending many hours walking and exploring the countryside or neighborhood with "Chewy" by his side. Don loved music and singing in the church choir, also playing classical accordion. Don had earned a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art and Design from Valparaiso University. He learned to make stained glass windows for churches. He enjoyed working with wood and remodeling homes, and he loved Corvettes.
He enjoyed living his last years at Glenn Park where he enjoyed knowing the many people and walking "Chewy", greeting many friends and staff everyday. There was also an endless supply of cookies.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Mary Jagow of Defiance, his sons Hans (Tamera) Jagow of Tucson, AR, Aaron (Gena) Jagow of Bentonville, VA. and his grandchildren, Saylor, Liberty, Atlas, Ace, Marcella, and Thomas. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Suellen Estes, brother-in-law, Mike (Linda) Maas of West Bend, WI, as well as his nephews Brent, Brad, Jeremy and niece Gena.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Nikki L. Jagow.
Visitation will be held on August 9, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am at the church. Burial of ashes will follow, taking place at Riverside Cemetery. Schaffer Funeral Home was honor to assist the family with arrangements.
