Daryle R. "Bob" Rogers, age 86 of Defiance, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at The Laurels of Defiance.
He was born in Ottawa Lake, Michigan on October 12, 1936 to the late William and Myrtle (Grady) Rogers. On May 17, 1958 he married Joan E. Schappert who preceded him in death on December 9, 2020. Daryle left home at the age of 17 to proudly serve our country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957, and the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961.
Daryle was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Stryker, Ohio, and previously at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Defiance. He worked as a Millwright at General Motors for 28 years from 1964 to 1992. After his retirement he worked at Tinora Schools as a custodian, was an Adams Township Trustee, a lifetime member of VFW #3360 serving on the funeral detail, enjoyed woodworking, and was an all around jack of all trades. Daryle was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was always working hard to support his family, building and creating things in his woodworking shop for family and friends, always ready to lend a helping hand with any projects.
Daryle will be sadly missed by his children, Robert (Marte) Rogers, Kevin (Sharyl) Rogers and Pamela (Dale) Stemen, all of Defiance, twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joan Rogers, two sisters; Frances Kastle and Virginia Hickerson, and six brothers; William, Richard, Charles, James, Luren and Gary Rogers.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker. A Memorial Service to celebrate both Daryle and his wife Joan will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the church, with Pastor Aaron Bueltmann officiating. One hour of visitation will be held prior to the service. A private burial will be held at St. Stephens Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
