Daniel "David" Hostettler Jr. "Hoss"

Daniel "David" Hostettler Jr. "Hoss", age 85 of Defiance, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center with his family by his side.  
  
He was born in Defiance on May 30, 1940 to the late Daniel and Marie (Wisda) Hostettler. David was a 1958 graduate of Defiance High School.  On October 13, 1962 he married Patricia Ann Michael and she survives. 

David was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the Defiance Eagles #372. He worked as a salesperson for River Valley Distribution for 28 years and he also worked in maintenance and as a custodian for both St. John's Catholic Church and the Defiance Eagles.  
  
David is survived by his loving wife Patricia Hostettler of Defiance, his children Carla Hostettler (Mike Holman) of Defiance, Stephanie (Salim) Khalife of Dublin, OH, Bruce Hostettler of New Haven IN, Susan (Craig) Miller and Charissa (Steve) Kroeckel, all of Defiance. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Glenn Farison, Joseph Khalife, Amel Khalife, Mackenzie (Stanton) Hannie, Elissa Baerlin, and Josie (Dillon) Harruff, four great-grandchildren, with one on the way, and his siblings, Joann Dietrick and Bill (Brenda) Hostettler, all of Defiance, Barbara Teats of Montpelier, Mike and Mark Hostettler, both of Defiance. 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Hostettler, and sister, Pamela Marshall.
  
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Rosary Service at 3:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 17th at St. John's Catholic Church, with Fr. David Cirata  officiating.  A graveside service will be held at Riverview Memory Gardens at a later date.
