Daniel "Dan" A. Detter

Daniel A. Detter, age 64 of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital with his family by his side.   

He was born in Key West, Florida on April 2, 1960 to Allen and Judith (Corron) Detter. Dan was a 1978 graduate of Defiance High School. On November 12, 1982 he married Susan Leach, who survives. 

Dan was a member of Defiance Elks Lodge #147. He worked at General Motors for several years until his retirement in 2017. Dan was a Defiance High School Athletic volunteer and basketball scorekeeper for over 20 years. He received the Jack Palmer Pride of the Bulldogs Award in 2023, being honored for his dedication and service as a coach and volunteer for over 25 years. He truly loved his involvement with Defiance High School sports over the years. He was an avid golfer and a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland INDIANS, and Defiance Bulldogs. The loves of his life were family and sports. He was extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments. Dan will be greatly missed by his family, colleagues, and many good friends.

Dan is survived by his loving wife Susan Detter of Defiance, his children, Nick (Kristina) Detter of Defiance, Allison (Chris) Underwood of Dayton, OH, and Wesley (Evelyn) Detter of Defiance. He also leaves behind five grandchildren; Isabella, Briella, Bryson, Everett and Colin, and his brothers, Mark (Michelle) Detter of Defiance, and Scott (Atsuko) Detter of The Villages, Florida.   

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Judith Detter.

The family will receive friends and family on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. 

The Detter family would like to thank ProMedica Toledo Hospital staff and doctors of Medical ICU for all their care, compassion and support shown to them.
