Corrine H (Bangert) Duerk

Corrine H. Duerk, 89, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Mercy Defiance Hospital.  
 
She was born on January 27, 1929 to Erwin and Caroline (Knehans) Bangert in Galveston, Texas. Corrine attended St. John Lutheran School and Ball High School in Galveston, and graduated from high school in North Judson, Indiana in 1945. She attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. On August 20, 1950 she married Junior A. Duerk, who preceded her in death on March 5, 2011.
Corrine was a faithful member and active volunteer of  St. John Lutheran Church. She was a founding member of the Altar Guild in 1958, sang in the Senior Choir, and was active in the Ladies Aide. Corrine taught school in Bremen, Indiana, and at St. John Lutheran and Brickel School in Defiance. She was a Township Clerk, Deputy County Auditor in Defiance, and managed the Defiance County Records Center.  
 
Corrine was very proud of her children and their accomplishments. Together, during their marriage of 61 years, Corrine and Junior raised four children. She will be greatly missed by her sons, David (Jane) Duerk of Buffalo, NY, Kevin (Dawn) Duerk of Celina, OH, and Christopher (Jennifer) Duerk of LaOtto, IN, daughter, Carol Rosengarten of Celina, OH, grandchildren Benjamin (Lauren) Duerk, Katie (Timothy) Kennedy, Allison Duerk, Parker Duerk, Jason Duerk, and Caleb Duerk, great-grandchildren Connor Kennedy, Eireann Kennedy, Padraic Kennedy, Thomas Duerk, and Elizabeth Duerk, sisters, Janet Morris of Williamston, MI, and Susanne Martin of Elkhart, IN, and sister-in-law Loretta Bangert of Redmond, WA.
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junior A. Duerk, son-in-law, John Rosengarten, brothers, Erwin Jr. and James Bangert, sisters, Rhoda Kletz and Carol Bangert, and a great-granddaughter Brigid Kennedy.
 
Visitation will be held from 2-7 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 9th at St. John Lutheran Church, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring and Rev. Matthew Schiemann  officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
