Cora G. (Turner) Athy

Cora G. Athy, age 87 of Defiance, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at her home in Defiance, Ohio.  
  
She was born on February 4, 1935 to the late Burl J. and Lena (Dick) Turner in Toledo, Ohio. On December 24, 1952 she married Robert Athy, who preceded her in death on May 5, 1990. 
  
Cora was a member of Defiance Eagles #372, where she was a cook for over 23 years until her retirement in 2020. She loved sewing, crafts, cooking, baking, holidays and family times, and the love and luck of the Lottery. She will be sadly missed by her family and many good friends.
  
Cora is survived by her sons, Jamie Athy of Defiance, Michael (Dixie) Athy of Elkhart, IN, and Robin (Tresae) Athy, Sr. of West Unity, OH, her daughter, Kimberly Lovett of Wauseon, OH, 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother, Jack (Rita) Turner of Niles, MI, her sister, Dora Hussey of Bryan, OH, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 
  
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Rodney and Kevin Athy, seven brothers; Orville, Gerald, Burl Jr., Kenneth, Richard, Robert and William, and four sisters; Emma, Geneva, Donna and Phyllis.
  
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 21st at 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
