Wes (Charles Wesley) Wittenmyer, age 83 of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.
He was born on April 24, 1939 to the late Charles and Gertrude (Metz) Wittenmyer in Wood County, Ohio. On August 11, 1979 he married Deborah Newton who survives. Wes worked as a machinist for many different machine shops before owning his own. He attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance where he volunteered at the food pantry. Wes was a member of the Eagles #372 and Moose Lodge #2094 of Defiance. He enjoyed camping and cooking for his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Wes was an unique individual and always boasted about being "an old hillbilly".
Wes is survived by his loving wife Deborah of Defiance, his sons, Joseph (Dawn) Wittenmyer, Dustin (Jamie) Wittenmyer, and his daughter, Terri Wittenmyer, all of Defiance, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and his brothers, John (Linda) Wittenmyer of Floral City, FL and Steve (Carla) Wittenmyer of Findlay, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Phyllis Newton, and brothers-in-law, Ray Coressel and John Newton.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Visitation will follow the service from 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
