Carolyn Grace (Rothenberger) Schudel

Carolyn Grace Schudel, age 86 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center surrounded by her family.  
  
She was born on March 21, 1938 to the late Norman and Grace (Dunlap) Rothenberger in Napoleon, Ohio. Carolyn was a 1955 graduate of Napoleon High School. On September 22, 1956 she married Charles Schudel, who survives. 
  
Carolyn was a member of  Defiance Eagles #372 Auxiliary, Amvets #1991, the YMCA and the Red Hat Club. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, playing bingo, plastic canvas crafts, playing computer games, couponing and refunding. Carolyn was known for being very ornery. She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. 
  
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Charles Schudel of Defiance, OH, their children, Bill (Julie) Schudel and Tina Dockery, all of Defiance, Joe Schudel of Bryan, OH, and Tony (Heather) Schudel of Sumter, SC. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and her siblings, Joyce Karr and David Rothenberger of Williams Center, OH, and Bonnie Phillips of Angola, IN. 
  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by twin daughters, Sherry and Terry Schudel, daughter Diana Riley, great-granddaughter Kennedy Nicole, brother Norman D. "Bud" Rothenberger, and her sister Karen Crawford.
  
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson / Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Hasselbring officiating. Carolyn will be laid to rest at Riverview Memory Gardens.
