Carolyn A. Franzdorf, age 83, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 with her son and dear friend at her side.
She was born in New Bavaria, Ohio on October 8, 1941 to the late Sylvester and Germain (Swary) Homier. On June 30, 1962 she married William A. Franzdorf, who preceded her in death on July 10, 2017.
Carolyn attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in New Bavaria, and graduated from Holgate High School in 1960. She worked at Campbell's Soup in Napoleon and Bolley Motor Sales in Defiance. In 1984 she helped organize "The Robin Red Breast Club", a support group for women with breast cancer. As a faithful member of St. John Catholic Church, she was active in funeral dinner planning, the Brefriender Ministry, Sacristan, and sang in the church choir. Carolyn loved watching and playing tennis, traveled many places with her "travel bunch" from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and wrote two cookbooks with favorite Homier family recipes. She also enjoyed knitting, cross stitch, gardening. watching hummingbirds and playing cards in her card club of 50 plus years. Carolyn had many friends who she enjoyed going out to eat and shopping with.
Carolyn is survived by her loving son, Doug Franzdorf, son-in-law, Kevin Browns, brother, Verl Homier, sisters-in-law, Patti Homier, Phyllis Homier, and LaVonne Homier, five godchildren, Deacon Mark, David, Chad, and Adam Homier, and Dawn Shover, very dear friend, Marjory Stites-Retcher, and many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryn Browns, brothers Marvin, Thomas and Theodore Homier, and sister-in-law, Merna Homier.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 17th at St. John Catholic Church, with Fr. David Cirata officiating. Carolyn will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
