Carol K. Armstrong

Carol K. Armstrong, age 83 of Defiance, passed away on Monday morning, January 26, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.   
  
She was born in Hicksville, Ohio on August 15, 1942 to the late Kenneth and Geraldine (West) Smitley. On April 18, 1959 she married Gary A. Armstrong, who preceded her in death on November 10, 2016. Carol loved hummingbirds, birds, flowers, and gardening. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed canning and cooking for her family. Carol was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
  
Carol was a devoted wife to her husband Gary for 57 years. They leave behind three wonderful children, Jeff (Amy) Armstrong of Paulding, OH, Lora Armstrong of Defiance, and Deb Schappert of Defiance, 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Joann Stantz of Hicksville, Ohio. 
  
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Julia Armstrong, and grandson, Ryan Armstrong. 
  
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Michael J. Armstrong officiating. Carol will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
