Carl E. Garland, 95 of Defiance, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022. He was born June 13, 1927, in Tiffin Ohio to Gilbert and Hazel (Taylor) Garland. On May 28, 1950, he married June Smith. Carl and June were married 62 years before June’s passing in 2012. Carl graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School. He registered for the Army and served during WWII from 1945-1947. After the war, he attained his Associates Degree in accounting from Tiffin University. Carl worked for the Farm Bureau Cooperative Association (Landmark) as a traveling office manager/accountant for many different counties in NW Ohio. After 41 years, Carl retired to travel with his wife; first, in their motor home; next, Arizona; and finally spending winters in Lakeland, Florida. Carl was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where he served many years providing the annual audit for the church.
He is survived by son, Robert (Connie Dobbelaere) Garland, West Chester, OH; daughter Kathy Garland, Defiance; and son Ron (Lori Ziegler) Garland, Mason, OH. He enjoyed his time with his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Carl was also survived by his special “tech wizard” Barb Acomb. Besides his wife June, Carl was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters Ruth Brill and Edna Walters.
Funeral Services will be conducted by Rev. John Schlicher at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Defiance, with calling hours one hour prior. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements
