Caren Bush, age 78 of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Friday morning, July 14, 2023 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
She was born on September 22, 1944 to the late Carl and Naomi (Bistline) Lehman in Bryan, Ohio. On April 15, 1983 she married Steven Bush, who survives.
Caren was a faithful and active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Defiance, and held many seats on the Vestry and was a member of the Altar Guild. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education. Caren loved children and dedicated her life as a fourth grade teacher at Defiance City Schools for 33 years until her retirement in 1997. Caren was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and Defiance County Retired Teachers, and also taught citizenship classes to migrants. In her leisure time she loved traveling with Steven and enjoyed her Bridge Club, going to casinos, and giving cooking lessons to her granddaughters. Caren also enjoyed genealogy and learning of her Civil War ancestors. She would create the most beautiful flower arrangements at home and loved to entertain their dinner guests. Caren will be sadly missed by her family, colleagues and many good friends.
Caren is survived by her loving husband, Steven Bush of Defiance, her son William (Rita Chamberlin) Hann of Waterville, OH, stepson Jerome Bush of Punta Gorda, FL, stepdaughter Rhonda (David) Coggins of Dallas, TX, five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and her brothers, James (Cindy) Lehman of Springboro, OH, and Dennis Lehman of Sand Creek, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Naomi Lehman.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel, 1753 S. Clinton Street in Defiance. A funeral service to celebrate her life will he held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Grace Episcopal Church, with Rev. John Hagen officiating. One hour of additional visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church.
